Yes, this will still hold your iPad Air with a case.
This works on any seat that has an
adjustable head rest. It is highly adjustable. The thickness of the
headrest poles can be pretty thick. The width between the poles are
adjustable. Then the mount that attaches to the tablet can be mounted
to 2 places on the bracket that attaches to the headrest. It can go
right behind the chair. Or be mounted on the end of the adjustable pole
which gives a center of the car mounting location. When it is mounted on
the end of the pole it can adjust in many angles. It is highly
configurable. The only gripe I have mounting it in the GM Acadia (SUV)
is GM chairs have big shoulders on their chairs. The headrest almost
goes inside the back of the chair. So the bracket's pole pushes on the
shoulder and gives it a temporary dimple. Since the pole only sits about
a half inch off the headrest posts. I could see if you used it more of a
permanent solution, the chair would get dirty there. It does work in
the Acadia. My Ford Focus does not have this issue at all, since the
back of the chair ends and the headrest is on top.

I use this to mount my kindle fire HDX to my car seat for my kids to watch movies and play games. I also use it to mount my tablet to my tripod during a photo shoot
This item started off great....easy to install, sturdy, and worked just as advertised.
However,
during a 34 hour round trip to Canada, the holder inexplicably broke
(sadly, this was halfway through the trip). Upon inspection, it appears
that a seam in the swivel arm split.
While we used it, the iKross supported the larger Kindle Fire with no case, so I don't think weight was an issue
GREAT product and great price!.
We just used this the past two weekends with our Kindle HD 8.9 for a 15/16 hour one way car trip...so with the round trip it was 30+ hours total in the car. I don't think we would've survived without it! It attached very easily to the headrests in our 2012 Toyota Camry. I put it on the passenger headrest. We took the case off of the Kindle and the iKross adjusted perfectly. It seems very universal so I'd imagine it would fit a wide range of other devices. It is very simple to take on and off the arm without even having to take it off the actually gripping part. so I could unclip it to change movies and not worry about needing to readjust the grip around the Kindle. There is also a part that is similar to a ball and socket (? unsure if this would be the correct term?) that allows you to adjust the way the device is rotated and then tighten it so it stays in place. The motion seems minimal but I didn't mess with that option much so I can't say for sure. I had two kids-one in car seats by each door-and had the arm extended out in front of the middle seat so they could both view it. They were both able to comfortable see the screen. When we were out of the car, I could easily unclip the gripper, take the kindle off to stash away somewhere and fold the gripper up to keep in the console. I just pushed the arm extender back in and it was out of the way! In fact, it is STILL on the headrest and poses no problems at all. It goes back in so far that I actually forgot it was on! This was totally worth the money and I'd definitely recommend it!
